While this is nowhere near a complete schedule of the time & attention we pour into each of these puppies, it should give you a general idea of what takes place week to week.
We do follow the Puppy Culture Program which includes Early Neurological Stimulation. We will also provide our puppy parents with info to continue these practices in order to ensure your puppy continues to develop into their best puppy self!
Weeks 1 - 2
During these first weeks, we give momma space to do what comes natural to her. We do check in on them frequently. Momma stays close to her puppies, and we keep the whelping box in a quiet area so they aren’t disturbed. Momma keeps taking her prenatal supplements & does most of the cleaning up herself, however, we tend to the whelping box once or twice daily as needed.
Week 3
By now, the puppies have open eyes and are mobile, albeit a little wobbly! We can’t resist the cuteness, and these babies are handled several times a day. Puppies are introduced to a designated 'potty area' & short car rides.
Week 4
This week we introduce Puppy Gruel and transition into Puppy Mush (a less watery mixture). By the end of the week, they’ve got the hang of it & since they have tiny sharp teeth now, momma is taking breaks from feedings. Intro to crate training begins this week.
Week 5
By the end of this week, puppies are on a soft dry puppy food diet, with occasional supplemental feedings from mom. We continue socialization with one-on-one handling/lovings. Puppies get to venture outdoors for short times.
Week 6
Pups are becoming more independent! They’ll spend more time outdoors, which helps with learning to potty outside. Pups are exploring and they’ll be introduced to our other dogs during this week under the watchful eye of momma. We start with very basic behavioral skills, teaching pups to “Sit”, though they’ll need continued training in their new home.
Week 7
Now we are preparing pups for arrival at your home! We continue with our light trainings, and begin soft corrections to keep all 4 paws on the ground when around humans. Pups continue to learn from momma's behavior corrections as well.
Week 8
Puppies are now your forever friend! We have scheduled a “Pick-Up Day” with new families, and pups are sent to their new homes!
